Mamajuana

Mamajuana is a traditional Dominican drink that combines rum, honey, red wine and herbs. The mixture is left to steep for several days or weeks before being served as an after-dinner drink or aperitif. This unique recipe has been around for centuries and is still popular today in the Caribbean and Latin America.

The origins of mamajuana can be traced back to the Taino Indians who lived in the Caribbean before Columbus arrived. They believed that the drink had medicinal properties and used it to treat everythng from joint pain to digestive problems. Over time, different variations of mamajuana were developed by adding different spices and herbs such as cinnamon, cloves, allspice, ginger root, anise, nutmeg and others.
