Emerald Sea Farms Ltd’s  Gartley Point Hatchery produces geoduck seed for King Clam Geoduck. In the fall of 2010 the hatchery successfully planted its first crop of geoduck seed in coastal BC waters.

Geoduck clams are the largest burrowing clam in the world. They are bi-valve filter feeders taking in the nutrient rich waters of British Columbia filtering the plankton that naturally occurs, and expelling filtered water.

They live up to 180 years and range from the intertidal zone to a depth of 300 feet.

A nice view of Gartley Point from a trail that leads from the end of Gartley Point Road. The trail leads into an estuary environment through tall grasses and onto the pebble beach.

The little foot bridge is also a water gate system that allows the hatchery to regulate the water level within the rearing ponds.
