Crossing over the Saint John River at the Village of Hartland NB, the 390.75m long Hartland bridge is by far the longest covered bridge in the world. Plans and specifications of the bridge began in 1898 and the bridge was constructed in 1901 by the Hartland Bridge Company.

The bridge was declared a National Historic Site in 1980, and a New Brunswick Provincial Historic Site in 1999.
