Upper, wooden section of the penstock pipelines
The upper, 3.6 metre diameter wood stave section running from the six-gate intake facility located at the intake dam on John Hart Reservoir is 1.1 kilometres long – it’s the low pressure section. The high pressure steel section is 0.7 kilometres long – it connects to surge towers and the intake of the powerhouse.

The above ground pipelines are being replaced with a single 2 kilometre, 8 metre diameter tunnel as part of BC Hydro’s John Hart Generating Station Replacement Project.
