The Tachek was built in 1969 as the Texada Queen, and was renamed to Tachek in 1977.

She was 0perated by the  British Columbia Ministry of Transportation from 1969–1985, and was subsequently transferred to BC Ferries in 1985 when the Ministry’s saltwater ferries and routes were transferred to BC Ferries.

Tachek underwent a $20 million mid-life extension project at the Point Hope Shipyard between December 2012 and October 2013.
