The Frozen Pond

A winter day at a little pond in Melvern Square

I have previously visited this little pond in Melvern Square to capture the beautiful range of colourful leaves in the spring and fall, taking a camera and a drone with me.

Fed by a small brook from the north, the pond drains to the south, flowing underneath Bridge Street.

Melvern Square was called Milltown because a grist mill was located there. The creek was dammed on Bridge Street to form a head pond for water power to run the mill. A saw mill was also located on Bridge Street.

The mills operated until the turn of the century.

Toy Soldiers

The Monument to the War of 1812, also called Toy Soldiers, is a War of 1812 war monument in Toronto. Designed by Douglas Coupland and unveiled in 2008, the monument includes two Styrofoam sculptures over a stone plinth, and commemorates the successful defence of British North America against American forces in the War of 1812.

The sculpture is situated near the intersection of Bathurst Street and Lake Shore Boulevard in the Fort York neighbourhood, south of the historic fort, and serves as the southeastern gateway marker to the Fort York neighbourhood.
