Remember where you were, respect where you are, and revel in where you are going…

You have to leave to get where you are going…

West Coast Echo in Whaletown

Heading into the BC Ferries terminal at Whaletown, on Cortes Island

M/V Tachek at the BC Ferries terminal at Whaletown on Cortes Island
We purposely arrived a few hours before the Tachek was due to arrive so we could set up a camp stove and have a cup of soup and a bite to eat. Whaletown is one of the quietest terminals, and also one of the most scenic – it’s a great place to wait for a ferry.

Rhododendron and Synergy in Fanny Bay
Rhododendron is an ex Washington State ferry – Synergy is a Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH). Both are used by Fanny Bay Oysters at their Fanny Bay oyster operation.

Heading into Westview Terminal aboard the Queen of Burnaby

At first glance it might be annoying that much of the Queen of Burnaby is closed to passengers – all of deck 5 is closed, and below, you can’t go further forward of the doors out of the forward passenger lounge on deck 4.

It’s due to economics and safety – the ferry traffic is low so BC Ferries does not need as many staff members, which in turn means that they can’t effectively clear deck 5 in an emergency. Such is life…

I’ll miss standing in the wind and watching the world go by, talking to the crew, or just lazing on a life jacket locker and enjoying a cup of coffee while reading a book.
