Lake Aircraft was a manufacturer of amphibious aircraft with its factory in Sanford, Maine, USA. Lake aircraft produced in the 1960 – 1980 range are listed by the Federal Aviation Administration as having been built by “Consolidated Aeronautics.”

I’ve always enjoyed construction sites and heavy equipment so I took a quick look at the work going on at a few ongoing projects…



Oyster River Nature Park is one of those hidden gems that is well worth checking out if you’re travelling on Highway 19A between Courtenay and Campbell River.
Trails in the park follow the Oyster River to some wonderful sections of beach opening onto Georgia Strait. Besides great views of the mountains across the strait, you can often see whales and sea lions passing by.

It’s also a good example of the interaction between coastal forest, rivers, and the ocean,

Bowen Park fallen totem poles
Four totem poles stood in Bowen Park in front of the duck pond for several decades. As they aged they were laid down in a wooded area near the duck pond so that they may slowly decay and return into the earth.
