Marconi National Historic Site of Canada

The Marconi National Historic Site – Glace Bay, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia

I had previously stopped by the Marconi National Historic Site of Canada on a blustery snow-covered winter day, and put a summer visit on my bucket list. It’s a piece of Canadian history that is well worth the visit, especially if you are an amateur radio operator.

Georges Island Lighthouse

Georges Island Lighthouse – Halifax harbour

Georges Island Lighthouse is a prominent concrete lighthouse, built in 1917 on Georges Island in Nova Scotia, replacing an earlier tower built in 1876. The light-keeper’s house remains standing a few hundred feet to the north.

The lighthouse was automated in 1972, and in 2005, the foghorn was decommissioned. The lighthouse is operated by the Canadian Coast Guard.
