Besides being a beautiful bridge, the Koksilah River crossing is an example of the crumbling rail infrastructure that resulted from age, decades of “deferred maintenance”, and now, a lack of use.

The crossbucks for Embleton Road are laying in a ditch beside the E&N crossing at Beachwood Drive. This is an example of reusing the crossbucks, as neither the Victoria Subdivision or Port Alberni Subdivision have an Embleton Road crossing at mile 38.32

An example of deferred right of way maintenance – while the Island Corridor Foundation is required to maintain the level crossings, they are not required to do much else about the vegetation growing on the tracks, or the right of way.
