Reconciliation – Jack Harman

The Peacekeeping Monument in Ottawa commemorates Canada’s role in international peacekeeping, and the soldiers who have participated and are currently participating, both living and dead.

Reconciliation depicts three Canadian peacekeeping soldiers standing on two ridges of stone cutting through the broken debris of war.

The monument was completed in 1992.

Ottawa – Joseph Eugène Bruno Guigues

Joseph Eugène Bruno Guigues was ordained as an Oblate priest in 1828. Appointed to the position of provincial superior of his community, he arrived in Canada in 1844. He was chosen to be the first bishop of Bytown (Ottawa) in 1847.

Bishop Guigues was interred at his cathedral on July 12, 1874. Notre Dame Cathedral was elevated to a basilica in 1879, and is the oldest existing church in Ottawa

After the bishop’s death, a monument to honour him was commissioned. It was sculpted by the artist Louis-Philippe Hébert and is located just outside the basilica.

Dancing Bear is the first public art to be displayed in Ottawa from a Nunavut-based artist. The sculpture is located in the ByWard Market’s Jeanne d’Arc courtyard, located off George Street, near Sussex Drive.

Located downstream from the Comox Lake impoundment dam, the diversion dam diverts a portion of the water in the Puntledge River into into BC Hydro’s penstock system. Water in the penstock flows to the Puntledge Generation Station, and additionally supplies water to the Puntledge Hatchery and the Comox Valley Regional District water supply system.
