Duncan Bay Main Line

I took a little drive along Duncan Bay Main Line – a logging road that is paved and goes through some beautiful areas. It also crosses over the new Island Highway, aka the Inland Island or Highway 19.

I stopped at one of the many view points on Highway 19A and took the time to take a look at Denman across Baynes Sound near Buckley Bay.

Go Smart Day – Street art

street art,Courtenay,Go Smart Day,Comox Valley

A wonderful work of street art that I saw during Comox Valley’s “Go Smart Day”, a street festival that provides opportunities for people to play in the streets. Segments of selected streets are closed to vehicular traffic for a short period of time so that other ‘people uses’ may take place in the street.

The Comox Valley is very bike friendly, both in terms of bike lanes and bike culture – bikes are everywhere.

Victoria as it was – Pacific Undersea Gardens

The Inner harbour of Victoria, looking along Belleville Street toward toward the Steamship Terminal Building – until quite recently the home of Pacific Undersea Gardens, Victoria’s aquarium.

Pacific Undersea Gardens originally opened in 1964 at the Oak Bay Marina – the 150-foot vessel was towed to Victoria’s inner harbour in 1969. It was closed in 2013, largely due to age and changes in building codes.

Dallas Road – as it was

Victoria,Dalla Road,history,sea wall,sewage outfall

The view of the ocean, ships, beaches and mountains are what grab the attention of most people when they drive or walk along Dallas Road near Ogden Point – the green concrete railing along the top of the sea wall is a prominent feature, as are the sewage outfalls if you look for them.

That lovely green concrete railing along Dallas Road was at one time grey, and then blue. No matter the colour, the reinforcing bar inside the concrete is always being attacked by the sea water and rusting away.
