The Highway 101 bridge over Bear River, in Deep River, Nova Scotia

The first of its kind on the continent, the bridge features a box girder design, assembled from precast sections craned into place. Completed in 1972, the curving structure replaced a lower, narrower single-lane crossing from 1900 that opened to allow boats through.
