Mayne Island – a smoked filled Active Pass
Looking across Active Pass from Miners Bay on Mayne Island toward Galiano Island as one of the BC Ferries heads toward Vancouver. The smoke from the forest fires burning in British Columbia interior was pretty nasty.

Muir Creek – the birds
Located off Highway 14 between Sooke and Jordan River, Muir Creek opens onto Orveas Bay on Juan de Fuca Strait. It’s a great place to watch birds and to search for fossils that are exposed at low tide.
