A bit of train graffiti – Wellcox Yard, Nanaimo
A week previous I shot this view shortly after a snowfall – as much as the snow is a bother for moving about in, it does provide a nice finishing touch to a scenic shot.
Looking down at downtown Nanaimo affords a view of Newcastle Island and the much larger Gabriola Island, freighters, BC Ferries ships, and floatplanes. It’s one of my favorite urban views.

Another nice winter view of Nanaimo and the Coast Mountains across Georgia Strait. I’m going to shoot this same scene in the spring and try to get some of the lights below at dusk.

Mount Arrowsmith Massif Regional Park

Mount Arrowsmith is one of those places that you get a quick view of as you drive on Highway 19 between Nanaimo and Qualicum Bay, or along Highway 4 as you head in or out of Port Alberni.
There are a few places where you can get a good view though – near the giant gnome just out of Nanoose, and at Little Mountain in Errington.
