One of eleven – Jordan River
There were eleven houses in Jordan River, all located in a tsunami inundation zone, and in the middle of the flood plain if BC Hydro’s Bear Creek dam were to fail. BC Hydro offered to purchase the homes, and all but one owner sold.
This is one of the last houses standing, and the only one that is still occupied.

One of the eleven houses in Jordan River that BC Hydro offered to purchase
In Jordan River you need a plan – a plan to pack up and get up to higher ground really fast as this is in the tsunami zone, and the flood path in the event of an earthquake that could cause BC Hydro’s Bear Creek Reservoir dam to fail.

The eleven houses in Jordan River are in the flood plain, and if the dam were to fail, there would be a maximum of 20 minutes to evacuate to safe ground. BC Hydro offered to purchase the homes, and all but one owner sold.

This is one of the last houses standing – it’s fate is sealed as it will be demolished and the land will eventually show little sign that there once was a house and a home here.

It’s sad, but in this case I think BC Hydro made a good choice in offering to purchase the houses…

I’m glad that they painted over the yellow…

The Surf Shack is an iconic Jordan River structure, and one of the last still standing in Jordan River. The majority of the buildings have been torn down due to concerns that the Jordan River hydro dam will fail during a moderate earthquake.

Smoke from the over 145 forest fires burning in British Columbia spread to much of inland and coastal areas, including here on Mayne Island.
These two images show the difference that the wind direction made – they were shot a few hours apart.

The smoke did not stop me from shooting some video, and enjoying one of the Parks Canada red chairs, both when it was smokey and when the skies were clear…

Georgina Point Light on Mayne Island
The Georgina Point Light marks the entrance to Active Pass, a heavily traveled route leading to the Southern Gulf Island and Swartz Bay on Vancouver Island.
As with many of my videos, this one was photo bombed by one of the BC Ferries…

Looking across Active Pass from Miners Bay on Mayne Island toward Galiano Island as one of the BC Ferries heads toward Vancouver.
The smoke from the forest fires burning in British Columbia interior was pretty nasty.
